A friend of mine gave me an old piano insides, primarily featuring the hammers. After many months thinking what I could use the piano for I finally stumbled on the idea that the hammers looked a little like feathers. Combined with the metal frames from the piano and some custom laser cut elements I produced this magnificent set of steampunk wings.
While great in themselves I knew it needed something more. Which turned out to be the collaborative effort from a model called Halo Haynes. She brought a whole new level to the wings.
Finally it was my photography and her modelling that resulted in the amazing images you see here. This set was shot at the hidden gem that is The Pit Studio in central Nottingham.
All these photographs were either lit by natural light from The Pit windows, or for the darker photos lit entirely by an old Philips Photolita 275w bulb.
As the shoot went on and the outside light slowly disappeared the entire shoot seemed to take on a portrayal of an entire story of an angel.
The ‘Red Bull’ shot of the wings was published in Kultur Magazines steampunk edition.
